Dr. Avram G. Primack is an expert in using geographic information systems (GIS) to create large datasets for analytical use. Having worked in environmental sciences for most of his life, he researches land use management and human impact analysis using GIS and remote sensing, documenting biodiversity using GIS, and estimating the impacts of climate change on vegetation using hydrologic modeling. Primack has been involved in and led watershed research projects around the world. Recently he organized GIS and other datasets for the Reserva de la Biosfera Sierra de Manantlan in Jalisco and Colima states, Mexico. As a Peace Corps volunteer at the Reserva de la Biosfera, Sierra Gorda, Queretaro, Mexico, he created forest databases to validate the Reserve’s application to offer sequestered carbon credits on the world market and fund further reforestation work. In addition, he authored the 2014 environmental science text book, The Environment and Us.
