Choosing a graduate school? Experience the O’Neill School before you decide, and be confident in your decision. During O’Neill's Experience Day, you’ll meet our faculty, staff, alumni, and current students, as well as other visiting prospective students—on location at the O’Neill School on the Indiana University Bloomington campus, considered one of the top five most beautiful campuses in the country.
Experience Day is a great opportunity for all prospective students, whether you are interested in an MPA, MSES, MES, MAAA, MSHM, or our dual degree programs.
When you reserve your spot for Experience Day and as you make your travel plans, keep in mind the following opportunities:
Current O’Neill School faculty, staff, and students will be in attendance, and we will be inviting all Experience Day attendees to join us. We will have a Gala Guide – a current O’Neill student – waiting for you upon your arrival to introduce you and your group to members of the O’Neill family throughout the evening. Your Gala ticket is on us!
Current O’Neill students open their homes, spare couches, and empty air mattresses to host a limited number of prospective students overnight. These accommodations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. In the RSVP form for Experience Day, please indicate if you are interested in staying with a current student.
If you plan on flying, the closest airport to Bloomington is the Indianapolis International Airport. There are two shuttle services from the airport to Indiana University:Go Express TravelandStar of America.
See what Experience Day holds for you
Final schedules will be available the week of the event, but plan for a full day on campus from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m (EST) with option activities in the evening. In the meantime, review our FAQs and explore our sample schedules for a feel of what the day will offer. But make sure to RSVP before the deadline!
Experience Day is geared towards applicants. As many of our current students will share, it was their visit to IU that really brought clarity to their graduate school choice. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy the feel of a day on IU’s campus—considered to be one of the most beautiful campuses in the country!
While we hope to see you on campus in person for Experience Day, we understand concerns stemming from the Coronavirus Global Pandemic. O'Neill School leadership will continue to monitor the virus outbreak as we approach the Spring of 2021 to determine if a virtual option - or completely virtual event - will be necessary.
If you are flying into the Indianapolis International Airport, which is just 50 minutes away from the Indiana University-Bloomington (IUB) campus, shuttle service directly to IUB is provided by theGo Express TravelorStar of America Shuttle Services for a small fee.
Additionally, we have a limited number of opportunities to be housed with a current student. You can indicate interest in being housed with a current student on your Experience Day RSVP form. We do recommend that you book a hotel, though, in case we are unable to accommodate your current student housing request.

All attendees will receive a schedule early in the week of Experience Day. The sample schedule on this website should give you an idea of the Experience Day events and timeline. It is recommended that you plan for a full day, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (EST) with optional activities in the evening. More details will be forthcoming.
You may park in the Fee Lane Parking Garage on Fee Lane, just off of 10th Street. There is road and building construction around the campus, so be patient and know that you might need to choose an alternate route.
We will provide you with a free visitor permit for use upon exiting the garage (please take a parking ticket as you enter—you won't need a parking pass until you exit). You will see signs indicating “Experience Day Parking” in and around the O’Neill School building and garage entrance.
We encourage you to park in the Fee Lane Garage on the second or sixth floors. Take the elevator on the south side of the building to the first floor of the building (B1), which is in the graduate wing of the Kelley School of Business. O’Neill Student Ambassadors will be waiting for you there.

We recognize that faculty and staff may prove influential in helping you decide which graduate school is the best fit for you—and the O’Neill School has involved many of our faculty and staff in the planning and implementation of the comprehensive Experience Day schedule.
Please do not arrange individualized meetings on Experience Day.These meetings disrupt the schedule we've designed to offer a full O’Neill experience that includes interaction with faculty, staff, and our student community. We encourage you to pursue individualized meetings on another day or via email, Skype, or other media.
If you are a prospective outside dual degree student (Law, Area Studies, Physics, Chemistry), we are happy to offer contacts in another department for you to arrange individual meetings outside of the Experience Day schedule.
As you finalize your travel preparations, know that business casual attire is appropriate for all events, including the Welcome Reception and Experience Day, and comfortable shoes are recommended. The O’Neill School Auction and Gala is a cocktail attire event.
Bloomington is spectacular in the spring, but the weather can be unpredictable.
We understand that family, friends, and significant others may join you in Bloomington. However, Experience Day is individualized visits forprospective students only. We are happy to offer information on local attractions and landmarks, which may help those who choose to accompany you stay busy while you experience the O’Neill School.
While activities during Experience Day are free, we are not able to pay for flights, lodging, or other incidentals. A few small travel stipends will be offered on a competitive basis. If you are interested in applying for a travel stipend, send your resume and unofficial transcript firstname.lastname@example.org the subject line: Experience Day Travel Stipend.
Also, opportunities for housing with current students are available to help guests save on the costs associated with hotel accommodations. These will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, as only a handful of spots are available.
