Our residential certificate programs are flexible and can meet the needs of working professionals or pre-career students. Most take just 15 credit hours, start with a core of required courses and include your choice of several electives—all designed to boost your skills in the workplace.
This 15-credit-hour program provides managers and technicians in concerned organizations and agencies—public and private—with training in the management of hazardous materials. Graduate students in other disciplines can use this certificate program to supplement their primary fields, possibly using the certificate courses as part of a doctoral or master’s minor.

This 15-credit-hour certificate is for individuals who want exposure to the nonprofit sector and nonprofit management issues, but who do not wish to pursue a degree in nonprofit management. This complements such areas as social work, library science, and parks and recreation.

This 15-credit-hour program is for graduate students in other disciplines to supplement their primary fields with coursework in public management, possibly using the courses as part or all of a doctoral or master’s degree minor. Career employees of public and private sector agencies seeking courses in public management will also find the program beneficial.

This 15-credit-hour program is for individuals seeking to take a leadership role in the arts in rural communities, and contribute to the economic, social, and cultural development of those areas. It can be taken in conjunction with a master’s degree (with the exception of the MA in Arts Administration), or on its own as a stand-alone certificate.
- 9 credit hours of required courses include a mandatory internship experience, ensuring those who complete this certificate will leave with hands-on practical practice in rural Midwest services. Partnerships with local governments and cultural institutions around the Uplands region will be coordinated through the Center for Rural Engagement.
- An additional 6 credit hours of electives is required.
