Jay Showalter began advising for O’Neill Undergraduate Programs in August 2018. He did his undergraduate studies in English and History here at IUB, and graduate work in English at Stanford University. He has been an academic advisor in University Division (2006-14) and in the College of Arts and Sciences, advising students in Communication and Culture and the Media School (2015-18). Prior to that, he served as a lecturer at IUSB and IUPUI, teaching basic composition, business and technical writing, and the occasional literature course. He enjoys reading (political biography) cooking (chili a specialty) playing in the Bloomington Community Band (percussion), and attending musical events at the Jacobs School. He encourages students to find personally meaningful ways to make the university and Bloomington their home during their years here.
