Student Spotlight

Kulsoom Tapal

Major: Law and Public Policy, Informatics

When her congressional internship through the Washington Leadership Program was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, honors student Kulsoom Tapal scrolled through the ONeill School’s website looking for faculty who could help her complete her required research hours for credit. She ended up connecting with a professor involved in a community health project, which Tapal described as a “whirlwind of learning.”

“If you see a professor doing something interesting,” said Tapal, “actively reach out and ask for opportunities to get involved.”

The biggest benefit of the Honors program has been the confidence and the platform to cultivate my own project.
