Andrea Astill joined the O’Neill School as an adjunct lecturer in 2024. She previously taught accounting courses for the Kelley School of Business from 2000-2022. During her tenure with the Kelley School, she earned numerous awards including Excellence in Teaching, and Innovative Teaching Methods. Her teaching experience includes courses she developed and taught at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels. Her professional experience includes work in the private, nonprofit, and public sectors.
Most recently, she worked for the Office of Professional Standards for the Indiana State Board of Accounts. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah, a master’s degree from Indiana University, and she went on to complete the coursework and comprehensive examinations in the accounting Ph.D. program before accepting a teaching position at the Kelley School of Business.
Astill enjoys bringing her accounting expertise to the classroom and finding creative ways to make the information accessible. “It is incredibly rewarding to see the lightbulbs go on and hear those cherished words ‘I finally get it!’” Her experience in for-profit, nonprofit, and government accounting allows her to bring practical insights (and plenty of humorous anecdotes) to the O’Neill curriculum.
In her spare time, Astill enjoys volunteering for local NFP’s, including her services on the Board of Directors for Girls Inc., Monroe County. Her personal hobbies and interests include swimming, glass blowing, chucking, DIY home renovations, gourmet cooking, vacationing with friends, and gardening. However, her favorite hobby is learning. “If one could earn a living as a professional student, it would be the ideal career … the title on my office door could read Chief of Knowledge Acquisition.” Astill encourages students to set aside their frustrations over exams or grades in lieu of an appreciation for this brief window in their lives where they get to spend their days focused on soaking up knowledge and expanding their horizons.
