BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Nine undergraduate students from the O’Neill School have been honored with Indiana University’s Senior Recognition Awards for their scholarship, leadership, and service to the campus community.

Madelyn Mustaine, BSPA’23, received the Susan Butler Award for outstanding scholarship and character. Mustaine completed her bachelor’s degree in December 2023 and is currently pursuing her MPA at the O’Neill School with a focus on policy analysis and health policy.

Two students, Sarah MacGregor and Cooper Sykes, received the Elvis J. Stahr Award for academic excellence and service as active campus and community leaders. MacGregor is completing a dual degree in arts management at O’Neill and ballet with an outside field in public financial management at the Jacobs School of Music. Sykes is majoring in environmental and sustainability studies and geography at O’Neill and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Six O’Neill students received the Kate Hevner Mueller Senior Award, which honors seniors who “have proven leadership on campus both inside and outside of the classroom and who have improved the IU community by their presence.” Those student leaders include arts management major Maddy Horne; law and public policy and human resource management major Xavier Ramirez; environmental science major and accelerated master’s program student Zoe Swanson; environmental and sustainability studies major Annetta Itnyre; environmental science major Niamh Monk; and December graduate Kennedy Reardon, BAESS’23.

“I’m grateful for the energy these students bring to the O’Neill community,” said R.J. Woodring, O’Neill’s associate dean for educational programs. “They raise the standards for their peers and keep our faculty inspired. I can’t wait to see the contributions they make to the wider world after graduation.”
