MAAA-MACPAM Dual Degree

Gain global experience while earning your arts management degree

If you’re looking to establish an international career in cultural policy and management, the dual Master of Arts in Arts Administration from Indiana University and Master of Arts in Cultural Policy and Arts Management from University College Dublin (MAAA-MACPAM) is an exciting opportunity to gain substantial professional development and relevant work experience while completing your arts administration coursework.

In the MAAA-MACPAM program, you'll study arts management and cultural policy in both the United States and Europe, and get an immersive, global perspective on the field. This experience is designed to expand career possibilities onto a global stage, and add to the value you're able to bring to arts organizations no matter where you go.

Interested students will need to apply to the O’Neill School and University College Dublin (UCD) separately.

The MA in Cultural Policy and Arts Management at UCD

Description of the video:

the ma in cultural policy and arts
0:02
management is the longest running
0:04
program of its kind in ireland and one
0:06
of the most established in europe and
0:08
since its inception we've graduated
0:10
nearly a thousand students who now work
0:12
all over the world the story of the last
0:14
30 years since ireland got its first
0:16
minister for culture in 1992 is
0:18
increasing sophistication scale ambition
0:20
and actually funding of the arts in
0:22
ireland in fact it's the best it's ever
0:23
been in the history of the state and of
0:24
course with all that money with all that
0:26
opportunity comes the need to have a
0:29
cohort of people who are able to manage
0:31
the arts properly so i think it's really
0:32
important that we have a best-in-class
0:34
course like this in ireland to support
0:36
our national and international efforts
0:38
studying this course in dublin has been
0:40
really fulfilling because i go from
0:43
class where i'm talking about arts and
0:45
culture and then i'm walking out in the
0:48
streets in dublin and experiencing it
0:50
firsthand
0:51
and
0:52
interacting with people that are so
0:53
friendly and welcoming and want you to
0:55
understand their culture it's been very
0:57
rewarding i was an arts and culture
0:59
journalist back in india i was actually
1:01
looking at courses to do i wanted to
1:03
study further and that's when i came
1:05
across this course people here are very
1:07
warm and approachable i'm very happy
1:09
that i made this decision to come here
1:11
it's a really supportive learning
1:12
environment you meet lots of different
1:14
people from such different backgrounds
1:16
from the faculty and the guest speakers
1:18
as well and it's just really apparent
1:19
that everybody really wants you to do
1:21
well i'm where i want to be doing what i
1:23
want to do and it's because of ucd when
1:25
you're running an institution like
1:27
project which has many different
1:28
stakeholders from artists to funders to
1:31
audience you are using lots of different
1:34
skills during a day and i think the
1:35
course really helped me prepare for that
1:38
we meet with them individually and we
1:39
talk with them about how they want to
1:41
develop their skills and we also find
1:43
out what sort of organization they want
1:45
to get involved with through the arts
1:47
lives module you actually got the
1:48
opportunity to sit in the room with the
1:50
directors the leaders the senior
1:52
management who are actually leading the
1:54
sector today being given access to
1:57
genuine experience at that stage in my
1:59
career getting to learn from some of the
2:01
best in the industry was invaluable at
2:03
the end of the spring trimester students
2:06
go on an eight-week placement with an
2:08
arts organisation this is an opportunity
2:10
for them to put into practice what
2:12
they've learned on the program and to
2:14
start building their professional
2:16
network through that placement i was
2:17
introduced to trevor white the founder
2:20
of the little museum and it was as a
2:21
direct result of my time on that
2:23
placement
2:25
that i actually am where i am today i'm
2:27
really excited to start the work
2:29
placement i'm trying to decide right now
2:31
between three different opportunities
2:33
one to work at a museum
2:35
a theater festival and a festival having
2:37
internships from this course has been
2:39
really important to emma the skills
2:42
base that the course offers a student is
2:45
really vital because in essence in the
2:48
arts you have to multitask i did an
2:50
internship in dublin city council arts
2:53
office and now i am working
2:55
as a marketing assistant in for example
2:57
the nuclear company throughout the
2:59
summer students work on their thesis
3:01
with the supervision from a faculty
3:03
member students do a deep dive into a
3:06
subject they've become interested in
3:08
specifically with the thesis that led
3:10
into my current employment opportunity
3:13
with colorado ballet as the education
3:15
and community engagement coordinator i
3:16
completed my internship and then stayed
3:19
on in edinburgh i wrote my pieces for
3:21
the ma while i was in edinburgh and
3:23
stayed on for the festival itself to see
3:25
how it rolled out so it was a brilliant
3:26
experience you arrive at a time when
3:29
dublin is at its best showing you
3:31
everything it has to offer in terms of
3:33
cultural activity in dublin in september
3:35
and october they're an exhausting but a
3:36
very fulfilling six weeks of festivals
3:39
dub french festival for two and a half
3:40
weeks short break and then dublin
3:42
theatre festival it's a fantastic time
3:44
to begin your stay in dublin i was
3:45
interested in making art happen so for
3:48
me the joy of the course was being in a
3:51
room with similar-minded people i loved
3:54
this course i had a great time and i
3:56
would not be doing what i'm doing
3:57
without this course
