Cydney McGuire’s research focuses on contextual and structural determinants of population health, health politics, and health inequities. Currently, her research aims to understand the role of structural racism in shaping health inequities and disparities in political participation. Her research examines racialized disparities in chronic health conditions and social needs, such as food security. Her work has been published in journals such as the American Journal of Public Health, American Journal of Epidemiology, Public Health Nutrition, and Frontiers in Political Science.
McGuire joined O’Neill in 2022 after completing her doctoral degree at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. She is an affiliate member of the Minnesota Population Center. She currently serves as a member of the Mentoring Committee for the Food and Nutrition Section leadership team of the American Public Health Association (APHA). In addition, she works with a nonprofit organization called the Research in Color Foundation (RIC) to provide meaningful mentorship opportunities to students of color studying economics and economics-related disciplines.
