It takes an accomplished scholar to hold a professorship named after a legend in the environmental field. Lynton K. Caldwell was the principal architect of the National Environmental Policy Act, the “inventor” of the Environmental Impact Statement and is credited with founding the then new field of environmental policy and administration. David Konisky’s groundbreaking work in environmental justice has led him to his current position as associate dean for research and Lynton K. Caldwell Professor.
In this role, Konisky leads the Indiana University arm of a $2.5 million Department of Energy project, studying community support for large-scale solar energy installations. He is a leading expert in U.S. environmental policy and politics, specializing in environmental and energy justice, regulation, federalism, and public opinion.
“I’m incredibly fortunate to hold the Lynton K. Caldwell Professorship, a role that has been transformative in advancing my research and scholarly endeavors. This position has provided me with the resources and flexibility to dive deeper into the work I’m passionate about, from my research in energy affordability, technology access, and renewable energy facilities to the efforts of the Energy Justice Lab, which focuses on developing evidence-based solutions to ensure an equitable and just clean energy transition in the United States.”
