BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Kosali Simon, a distinguished professor and Paul O’Neill chair at the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, has been announced as president-elect for the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management.
“I am deeply humbled to serve as the next president of APPAM, an organization that has played an integral role in shaping my growth and fostering connections that I value immensely,” Simon said. “Through the hard work of many, APPAM has become a venue with incredible impact on public decision making, scholarship, and supporting a rich pipeline into our profession.”
Simon is a nationally known health economist who specializes in applying economic analysis in the context of health insurance and healthcare policy.
She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, the editor of the Journal of Health Economics, and has served in a leadership role for the American Society of Health Economists.
As APPAM president, Simon will oversee the planning of the next annual research conference and work with the association’s staff and committees to serve its membership through year-round professional development activities. She will connect researchers and practitioners as APPAM continues to forge closer connections and meaningful discourse for all its members.
“The O’Neill School prides itself on being a leader in developing policies that make a positive impact for the greater good,” said Siân Mooney, dean of the O’Neill School. “Kosali has been a guiding light for healthcare policy, and she is richly deserving of this honor from APPAM.”
Simon will be the first O’Neill School faculty member to serve as president of the organization.
APPAM was established in 1979 to create a new professional organization of graduate schools of public policy and management. It has since grown to roughly 4,500 individual and student members, 100 institutional members, seven full-time staff, and an operating budget of $3 million.
