BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Distinguished Professor Kosali Simon, who is also Herman B Wells Endowed Professor and Paul O’Neill Chair at the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, has been honored with the 2024 M.A. “Venkat” Venkataramanan Distinguished Service Award by Indiana University’s Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs.
The Venkat Award honors a faculty member or librarian whose service has had a long-term, significant impact on the Bloomington campus.
“Kosali is richly deserving of this recognition because she has long been a tireless innovator who is focused on making a positive impact in the realm of health policy in the state of Indiana and beyond,” said Siân Mooney, dean of the O’Neill School. “Our faculty are known around the world for being the leading experts in their respective fields, and Kosali is a shining example of the multiple ways one’s dedicated research can make a difference.”
Simon is a nationally known health economist who specializes in applying economic analysis in the context of health insurance and healthcare policy. Her current research focuses on the impact of health insurance reform on healthcare and labor market outcomes and the causes and consequences of the opioid crisis.
The Venkat Award honors M.A. “Venkat” Venkataramanan, former IU executive vice provost for finance, budget, and strategy and current Jack R. Wentworth Professor and Professor of Decision Sciences at IU’s Kelley School of Business. He has provided more than 35 years of service to the university.
