BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Master of Science in Healthcare Management program, offered jointly by the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs and IU’s Kelley School of Business, has been awarded accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) for the next four years.
“We’re delighted that our MSHM program has earned accreditation from CAHME,” said Siân Mooney, dean of the O’Neill School. “This recognition reflects the high quality of this program, and our dedication to preparing future healthcare leaders with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of the healthcare industry. I’m especially thankful for those who put in the time and effort to earn this prestigious accreditation.”
Developed in consultation with over 50 healthcare leaders from across the industry to identify the skills graduates need, the program’s goal is to educate and equip students for effective leadership in the health services industry at both local and national levels. Tailored for both early-career and mid-career professionals, the program delivers a solid foundation of knowledge and practical skills. It incorporates innovative learning experiences, tested and enriched through hands-on partnerships within the health services community.
“Earning CAHME accreditation for our Master of Science in Healthcare Management program underscores our dedication to delivering top-tier, industry-relevant education,” said Pat Hopkins, the dean of the Kelley School. “The program prepares students for leadership positions across various health-focused sectors, and this accreditation further affirms that our MSHM graduates will be prepared for the next step in their careers.”
CAHME works with leading academic programs and numerous healthcare practitioners to ensure that graduates entering the healthcare field have undergone an educational process meeting rigorous, measurable standards for effectiveness. The result is a formal academic education focusing on key competencies, plus practical experiences. This enables new graduates to quickly add value to an organization and grow into future leaders.
“This accreditation affirms what our students, alumni, and employer partners already know—MSHM is redefining what healthcare leadership education can be, said April Grudi, the faculty program director of the MSHM program at the O’Neill School. “Our program is built on the belief that technical expertise and strong leadership values must go hand in hand. CAHME’s recognition validates that our interdisciplinary, applied model meets the highest national standards—and that our graduates are exactly the kind of leaders the industry needs now.”
Since 1968, CAHME has served the public interest by advancing the quality of healthcare management education globally. CAHME accredits 163 academic programs that span a broad definition of healthcare management, including healthcare quality and safety, as well as population health.
“CAHME-accredited programs have successfully navigated a complex and careful accreditation process managed by experts in the study and practice of healthcare management,” said Dr. Anthony Stanowski, DHA, FACHE, president and CEO of CAHME. “The program meets rigorous standards set by leading academics and practitioners. We recognize their commitment to the field.”
