BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs is proud to announce the launch of its new Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree program designed to equip students with the essential skills needed to analyze, evaluate, and design effective public policies.
The MPP builds on the foundation of the O’Neill School’s top-ranked Master of Public Affairs (MPA) program and is particularly suited for students with advanced proficiency in mathematics, economics, and statistics. The MPP program is tailored for those who aspire to a career in policy analysis, offering a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes critical approaches to assessing and crafting public policy.
“Our new Master of Public Policy program is a significant addition to the O’Neill School,” said Siân Mooney, dean of the O’Neill School. “This program will provide students with the analytical tools and knowledge necessary to tackle complex policy challenges and make a meaningful impact in their chosen fields. The MPP also adds an additional STEM program to the O’Neill school’s many offerings.”
Graduates of the MPP program will be well-prepared for a wide range of careers in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Potential career paths include policy research, legislative analysis, government relations, program analysis, management, and administration. The MPP will also position graduates to excel in roles that require sophisticated policy analysis and strategic decision-making.
The MPP complements O’Neill’s world-renowned MPA program, which is focused on the implementation and management of public programs and organizations. The MPP instead offers a quantitative-focused pathway on the evaluation and design of public policy.
The MPP is a 48-credit-hour degree that provides students with a choice of six areas of concentration. Anticipated concentrations include health policy, environmental policy, energy and climate policy, social policy, equity and social justice, and public finance.
“For more than 50 years, the O’Neill School has developed the next generation of leaders in the realm of public policy,” said Jill Nicholson-Crotty, associate dean of graduate public affairs and policy programs at the O’Neill School. “The addition of the MPP takes the next logical step of providing the skills to analyze public policy once implemented with an eye on constantly improving that policy in an evolving world.”
The Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs has a long-standing reputation for excellence in public affairs education, and the introduction of the MPP program further solidifies its commitment to preparing the next generation of policy experts.
