BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Justin Ross, a professor at the Paul H. O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, has been appointed to the Property Tax Task Force in the state of Montana by Governor Greg Gianforte. The task force is charged with formulating recommendations for ways the state could reduce the burden property taxes put on Montana residents.
Ross is an expert on state and local public finance with a focus on property taxation. He has published extensively on the topic and has advised several states and local governments on property tax reform. He’s currently part of the Interim State and Local Tax Review Task Force of the state of Indiana.
“I am honored and excited to join the Property Tax Task Force in Montana and to contribute to this important policy issue,” Ross said. “I look forward to working with the other members of the task force and the governor to find solutions that will benefit the people of Montana.”
The Property Tax Task Force is a bipartisan effort consisting of 23 members, including legislators, local officials, and other experts. The task force will examine a range of issues, including how to slow the rate of property tax growth, how to make property tax bills more transparent, how to increase public participation on ballot measures, and more.
“We must protect Montana homeowners from rising property taxes, and I look forward to the work of the Property Tax Task Force to reform our property tax system and arrest the rate of growth of property taxes,” Gianforte said in a release.
The task force is expected to submit its final report and recommendations to the governor and the legislature by August 15.
