BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Six undergraduate students from the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs have been honored with Indiana University’s Senior Recognition Awards for their exceptional scholarship, leadership, and service to the campus community.
Joshua Brinkman and Aidan Hamilton received the Elvis J. Stahr Award for their academic excellence and outstanding leadership qualities. Both students study law and public policy at O’Neill and are active leaders in the IU Army ROTC program. Brinkman also serves on the 103rd Board of Aeons, while Hamilton serves campus through IU Student Government.
Three O’Neill students received the Kate Hevner Mueller Senior Award, which honors seniors who have demonstrated leadership both inside and outside of the classroom and who have positively impacted the IU community. Those student leaders include nonprofit management and leadership major Grace Brenner, policy analysis major Sophia Hottois, and arts management major Lucia Walker. Brenner has supported Riley Children’s Foundation through Indiana University Dance Marathon and has been actively involved with Students for Equity in Public Affairs. Hottois has served as an associate justice on the IU Student Government Supreme Court, served as a Career Hub peer educator and teaching assistant at O’Neill, and interned at the White House through IU’s Washington Leadership Program. Walker has promoted the arts on campus by serving as the student coordinator for O’Neill’s arts administration and student leadership programs and through her leadership with the Singing Hoosiers.
December graduate Becca Samuel, BSPA’24, was recognized with the Student Employee Award for demonstrating exceptional leadership while employed by the university. Samuel worked for the O’Neill School’s Career Hub as a peer educator and as a teaching assistant for various O’Neill courses.
“The O'Neill School is home to students who are deeply committed to leadership and community engagement. These award winners exemplify that dedication, and I'm proud to see their efforts recognized by the university,” said R.J. Woodring, O’Neill’s associate dean for educational programs. “I’m confident they'll make a positive impact that stretches far beyond campus.”
