BLOOMINGTON, In. – Indiana University announced Thursday that David Reingold, former executive associate dean of the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, has been named executive vice president and chancellor of IU’s Bloomington campus.
Reingold was a faculty member at the O’Neill School from 1997 to 2015, and he served in multiple capacities in the school's administration. As director of public affairs and public policy Ph.D. programs, Reingold was responsible for leading the school’s social science doctoral programs, including the public affairs degree and a joint degree with the Department of Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences. He also supervised the administration of student fellowships and financial aid and the program’s staff.
In his capacity as executive associate dean, Reingold oversaw the doubling of total revenue for the O’Neill School on the Bloomington campus in five years within an RCM budgeting environment. He also raised more than $4 million over four years to launch and support the SPEA VISTA Fellows Program and the Vietnam Young Leaders Award Program.
“We’re incredibly excited for Dean Reingold to return to Indiana University and lend his leadership and wisdom to such a critical role,” said Siân Mooney, dean of the O’Neill School. “His passion for students and his dedication to the mission of Indiana University makes him the perfect candidate to push IU forward, and we congratulate him for accepting this new role.”
Reingold has spent the past decade as a professor in the Department of Sociology at Purdue University, where he also served as the Justin S. Morrill Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. He also has been senior vice president for policy planning for the past two years at Purdue.
“David’s knowledge of and deep love for IU Bloomington makes him the ideal person to serve as the first chancellor of the campus in nearly two decades,” said IU President Pamela Whitten. “As chancellor, Reingold will be responsible for finance and administration, community engagement, enrollment management, student life, and the campus’ research and creative activities. In addition, the chancellor will also oversee the Office of the Provost, which will continue to manage the academic functions of the IU Bloomington campus. Through this reestablished role, he will engage with faculty and staff across the campus to accelerate achievement of the ambitious goals outlined in our IU 2030 strategic plan and seize the many opportunities the Bloomington campus has to strengthen its impact on Indiana and the world.”
Reingold holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago and has published extensively on topics related to public policy, social welfare, and community development. His academic accomplishments and administrative expertise have earned him national recognition and numerous accolades.
Reingold will begin his position June 2.
