Federal Employee Tuition Benefit FAQ

   

The benefit is equal to 35% of your tuition rate.

Any currently employed federal worker, including those on probationary status, or anyone who separated from federal employment after January 1, 2025. These benefits are available to students who enter and begin their program by fall 2026.

Qualifying federal employees please contact the Master's Programs Office at oneillgd@iu.edu to discuss eligible master’s programs offered by the O’Neill School on either campus or online.

 

If your program began in summer 2025 or later, you are eligible for the fellowship beginning in the summer 2025 term.

This benefit will be applied against any tuition that is remaining after other service-related benefits and other fellowships have been applied.

Yes, you may be awarded the fellowship and an additional Graduate Assistantship or a Student Research Assistantship.

During the application process you will be required to submit the following information: title of federal position you held, service branch and rank, supervisor (or HR contact) and, if applicable, your date of separation.

You also must apply for the benefit annually, which means filling out a brief form to opt in and identify program credits for upcoming semesters of intended enrollment.
