E482/V482 - Environmental Policy and Management in Vietnam (3cr.)

Program Director: Rajendra Abhyankar

As one of Asia’s fastest growing economies, Vietnam faces abundant job growth, city expansion and increased access to higher education, health care, and internet access. However, this explosion of economic growth has also led to policy concerns regarding human health and the environment.

This course will explore issues of environmental sustainability in the context of Vietnam’s rapid economic growth. Join with students of Hanoi University of Science, to learn about threats to environmental quality, ecosystem health, and biodiversity, and about policy and management options to manage these threats. Explore Hanoi urban environments, agricultural practices in rural areas, and protected area management at Tam Dao National Park and the MeLinh Biodiversity Research Station. Your instructors include experts in policy making and conservation, and you will also meet with members of the national government, agricultural experts, and resource managers. Field trips will provide experience in scientific, cultural, political, and historical issues of the region.

In Hanoi, you will stay at the Army Hotel in a double-occupancy room. The hotel has free Wi- Fi, a restaurant, and an outdoor pool.
