Four New Directors at SPEA

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Robert Kravchuk is the new director of the Master of Public Affairs program.

This is how Executive Associate Dean David Reingold made the announcement:

“It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Bob Kravchuk as professor and MPA director for SPEA Bloomington. Bob will start in January 2013 but will work with Brad Heim and the MPA reaccreditation faculty advisory committee this summer and fall. Bob is Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science at University of North Carolina-Charlotte. His recent research focuses on the causes and consequences of both public and private use of funding innovations. He is also co-author with David H. Rosenbloom and Richard Clerkin of the widely-adopted text on Public Administration: Understanding Management, Politics, and Law in the Public Sector 8th ed. (New York: McGraw-Hill, forthcoming 2013). In 1991-93, Kravchuk served as a deputy director in the State of Connecticut budget office. In 1993-94, he was the U.S. Treasury's Resident Budget Advisor to the Minister of Finance of Ukraine. During 1995-96, he was appointed jointly by the U.S. Secretaries of State and the Treasury as Financial Advisor to the President of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Kravchuk holds the Ph.D. in political science from the Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Additionally, he holds an M.B.A. in finance from Columbia University.” In addition to those distinctions, Bob was an associate professor at SPEA from 1998 to 2007.

Sergio Fernandez has been named the new director of the Public Affairs/Public Policy PhD programs. Sergio will shadow Director Evan Ringquist this summer and fall and will officially start in January 2013. He is an associate professor.

Marc Lame is the new director of the Master of Science in Environmental Science program. He is a clinical assistant professor.

Chris Craft is the new director of the Environmental Science PhD program. He is the Janet Duey Professor in Rural Land Policy.
